SMS ADU by bunch design has been shortlisted in the small interior category of Dezeen Awards 2021.

Bunch Design has designed SMS ADU, a 72-square-metre two-bedroom house built in the small backyard of an existing LA home.

Inspiration came from singer David Byrne dancing to his song "Stop Making Sense". By wearing an enormous suit, Byrne comically and awkwardly creates an inflated body mass around his skinny body.

With lifted ceiling, tilted windows and simple colour scheme, this house reaches a comfortable equilibrium with the outside world. To keep the California light and breeze moving through the house, each space is only separated by simple sliding panels.

This project has been shortlisted in the small interior category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
