Bat Trang House
by VTN Architects

Winner: Urban house of the year 2021 Vietnamese studio Vo Trong Nghia Architects (VTN Architects) has designed a seven-person family home that also functions as a shop in Bat Trang, Vietnam.

The house has a double skin made of red perforated ceramic sourced from Bat Trang village, an ancient town that specialises in ceramics.

It has effective natural cooling and ventilation system because of its three layers: the outer ceramic skin, the greenery, and the inside external layer. The red skin celebrates the cultural identity of the community.

Judges comments: "The house has an original use of material and beautiful light by using the outside as a filtering skin. The look is radical and there are surprising elements that work very well."
