Narrative Design Studio has designed AutoCamp Joshua Tree in California, United States.

This project, inspired by the golden hues and rough textures of the desert landscape, provides a seamless connection to the outdoors.

The 25-acre glamping getaway is anchored by an arched, Quonset Hut-influenced clubhouse which was outfitted inside with locally inspired hospitality and modern details.

Elements of passive design in this project include orienting the building to shelter from winter winds and taking advantage of summer breezes, expressing shading elements on all facades, maximising interior daylighting, and using simple and elegant architectural forms.

By utilising local artists and fabricators and considering the area's rich cultural history, this led to choices of original artwork and custom details – where the organic sculptural elements break the cleaner lines of the mid-century architecture.

This project has been longlisted in the hotel and short-stay interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
