Appareil Architecture has created a series of chalets in Québec that celebrate the singular character of Canada's largest province.

The project is inspired by the fundamental idea of a forest refuge, and embraces Québec's Nordic roots amid the uniqueness of the Lanaudière region setting. It marries design, minimalism, local materials, and custom furniture. The chalets are streamlined to create compact and well-thought-out living spaces, eliminating anything superfluous to maintain only the essential.

The architecture is at once familiar – as though having always been concealed within the landscape – and thought-provoking, offering a new contemporary dimension through use of bold volumes and raw materials. Outside, durable pre-aged cedar and a galvanized steel sloping roof ensure uniform weathering, while inside pine slats and a heated concrete floor lend a warm aspect to the space.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
