Studio Sam Buckley has designed Bing Ting Cafe in Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom.

This project is a Chinese street food cafe situated in an old Victorian butcher shop in Northern England.

Renovated for a quirky modern feel, Studio Sam Buckley kept all the original tiling intact and worked with the existing colour scheme to create a bold and refreshing interior concept.

Similarly, the wall tiles were also listed, so no physical fixings were permitted there. Subsequently, a design was created that would work with the existing 'busy' scheme, whilst adding its own identity, and not feeling as though the space was too empty.

"The budget was very tight on this project," noted Studio Sam Buckley, "But with a great client who wanted to push the boundaries, the project took on an identity that is respectful of the traditional but isn't happy to just sit on that and is forging its own character from an ad-hoc style of design."

This project has been longlisted in the restaurant and bar interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
