Kingston Lafferty Design has created an extensive refurbishment project for a family home in southwest Ireland.

The project is a residence set amidst the cliff face of Lovers Walk overlooking Cork City. What started as a simple decoration project evolved to a full redesign of the internal layout, following a structural need to fully excavate the floorspace.

As a result, the project broadened to incorporate interior architecture, joinery and interior design which invited the introduction of new materials, finishes and experiences.

The architecture of the original house being a striking mix of eras with a dominant 1970s block staircase, the ensuing project hinged on the boldness of this structure and the graphic simplicity of its form which acted as a graphic and focal internal core informing and inspiring the overall design aesthetic.

This project has been longlisted in the house interior category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
