SPF Architects Los Angeles project Taylor Yard Bridge a.k.a. Rumblefish blends modern identity with an old history.

Until recently, gang violence was rampant in the communities connected by this bridge. Changing times mean the LA River now defines a new identity, where community collision is sole of the peaceful kind.

The project was conceived as a place for togetherness in reference to the area's history. The design is a 3% grade path supported by a level box truss and offers a mid-span meeting point where two cantilevered view decks are offset as if in a handshake or dance. The view decks are designed to accommodate small gatherings, community events, and peaceful contemplation of the river.

This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
