Wall of Salt by Atelier Luma
Adrian Deweerdt

Atelier Luma has created a salt panel structure that harnesses the mineral's natural properties for use in design and architecture.

The Wall of Salt showcases the use of salt as an abundant, fireproof, natural material for design and architecture, with the production of a salt panel that was developed to clad a wall covering 560 square metres at the heart of the Luma Gehry Tower in Arles.

The project studied the natural process of crystallisation in the salt marshes of the Camargue as a means of production. The production process to make the salt material has a very low environmental impact and is carried out in harmony with the region's natural cycles. It aims to preserve the declining craft of salt production and its ecological environment.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
