Studio Thonik has designed the visual identity of the M+ Museum of Visual Culture in West Kowloon, Hong Kong.

This project is Hong Kong's new museum on visual culture, focusing on 20th-and-21st-century art, design, architecture and moving images.

The iconic building, designed by the M+ MJV team consisting of Herzog & de Meuron, TFP Farrells and Arup, opened at the end of 2021 – while Thonik developed a visual identity that works across the institution's physical and digital platforms.

M+ Museum of Visual Culture's visual identity uses a range of mid-tone colours – selected to be tonally equal to 50% black. Ranging from mid-grey to vibrant orange/cyan and purple/pink, these colours reflect Hong Kong's urban fabric: grey high rises and colourful, neon, commercial communication.
