Aude-Line Duliere and Juliet Haysom have designed the Placeholders project, which was documented by Ele Mun.

When the V&A created the Exhibition Road Quarter in 2017, more than 400 large Portland stones were removed from the Aston Webb Screen, creating a new entrance to the museum.

To save the stones from being crushed into aggregate, they were hauled to a quarry in Dorset, where they have been dormant for nearly a decade.

In this strategic intervention, some of these stones made a comeback on Exhibition Road as street furniture.

This project illustrates the enduring possibilities and cultural richness for reusing local stone, which is emerging as one of the lowest environmental impact building materials.

This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
