ZW/A Zweyacker & Associés has transformed 136 Chartrons, a 19th-century heritage building, former spirits storage warehouse and auction house into a higher education establishment in Bordeaux, France.

Heritage and iconic witness of the Chartrons district, the building known as Hôtel des Ventes is undergoing significant restructuring and a change of use.

Based on the architectural recycling principle, this project minimises demolition to preserve and enhance the essence of the site, the Genius Loci.

By leveraging the formal, spatial and constructive capacities of the building to create this new campus, this project proposes a major technical rehabilitation, a contemporary extension, landscaping of the courtyards and improvement of environmental performance, thus creating a comfortable environment for 2,000 students and a more sustainable building.

This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
