Studio Arthur Casas has renovated Angra House, a home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
By the sea, a weekend house featuring large openings, raw stones, woven straw ceilings and mashrabiyas interacts with local materials to establish full integration with Angra's landscape.
Originally built in the 1980s, the L-shaped house was transformed from architecture to interiors by Studio Arthur Casas, adapting to the needs of a family who enjoys hosting.
By preserving the integrity of the original volume while redesigning facades, switching windows for balconies, removing walls, connecting social areas, incorporating natural materials and letting sunlight and ventilation in, the house gained a fluid layout with a soft transition between indoors and outdoors.
This project has been longlisted in the house renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
