B2Ai Architect has converted and refurbished the bottling plant into the new open Egied van Broeckhovenschool in Brussels, Belgium.
In the multicultural area around the West Station in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, in the buildings of the former Vandenheuvel brewery, the Egied Van Broeckhoven School has opened.
The brand-new school places itself into the existing urban fabric and plans to connect 860 pupils, inside the domain school, with the neighbourhood.
This refurbishment project was realised in two phases in two years and contains high social, urban, educational and sustainable ambitions.
The construction of the school was realised within the DBFM procedure of the Flemish Government, making it the first of around 40 school projects to be completed and operational.
This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
