Anttinen Oiva Architects has designed Katajanokan Laituri, an office and hotel building with a solid wood structure located on the historic waterfront of Helsinki, Finland.

Katajanokan Laituri sets an example of the potential of wood construction in a sensitive, historically layered urban environment.

As the first new building on Helsinki's formerly closed harbour waterfront, it leads the area's transformation into an open public space.

The building houses Stora Enso's new headquarters and Hotel Pier 4; spanning four floors with a publicly accessible green rooftop, it offers street-level services to the neighbourhood.

A light-filled lobby connects the city to the seafront, serving as a welcoming public space.

Outdoor areas reflect Nordic nature, with a birch grove in the courtyard and archipelago meadows on the roof.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
