Schenker Salvi Weber has designed KinderKunstLabor, a children's art-laboratory and exhibition space in St. Pölten, Austria.
The KinderKunstLabor is a one-of-a-kind building concept globally, where it's neither a museum nor an indoor playground, but rather a large laboratory for children from all social and educational backgrounds up to 12 years old.
Through its participatory planning process – including a dedicated children's advisory board – the building integrates inclusive design at all levels: from architectural scale to curatorial structure.
This project offers barrier-free access, sensory-rich spaces and flexible zones that accommodate different learning styles, movement patterns and social interactions.
"The space allows them to engage with contemporary art in a playful and sensory way through workshops and exhibitions at a high level," said Schenker Salvi Weber.
This project has been longlisted in the cultural project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
