Estudio ALA has designed Mezcal Palenque, a mezcal production facility designed to integrate local culture and vernacular architecture in Michoacan, Mexico.

This project integrates local culture, vernacular architecture, eco-friendly materials and participatory design, fostering sustainability and harmony with the landscape.

Mezcal Production Palenque emphasises sustainability, using eco-friendly materials such as laminated wood and bricks.

A key goal was to maintain a human scale and avoid the monumentality of industrial spaces, creating a comfortable environment for workers and visitors.

Participatory design workshops helped shape the project, fostering a strong connection with the local community.

The design also incorporates a bio-pond and botanical garden to enhance local flora and fauna, with ecological services integrated into the plant's infrastructure, promoting environmental sustainability.

This project has been longlisted in the workplace project (large) category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
