HKS, Cagni Williams and Sonnemann Toon have designed Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, a pioneering healthcare facility in Smethwick, England.
The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) is a state-of-the-art healthcare facility serving Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust.
As part of the UK's New Hospital Programme, it sets new standards for clinical care, efficiency and sustainability.
The 80,000 square metre hospital provides emergency, maternity, paediatric and acute inpatient services in a purpose-built environment that enhances collaboration between clinical teams.
A flexible, future-proofed design, combined with innovative construction methods and extensive community spaces, ensures MMUH is not just a hospital but a catalyst for regeneration, delivering long-term benefits to both patients and the local community.
This project has been longlisted in the leisure and wellness project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
