Smau Arkitektur has renovated Mor Åses vei 42, a mid-century house in Stavanger, Norway.
Nestled in a historic Stavanger neighbourhood, this project demanded a delicate balance – respecting the scale and character of its surroundings while embracing thoughtful modernisation.
Local planning regulations called for sensitivity, guiding interventions that refresh without overwhelming, preserving the architectural heritage that defines the street.
As a result, Smau Arkitektur's renovation introduces carefully sculpted forms, varied cladding, copper panels and divided windows, allowing the house to play with light, create defined zones and achieve harmonious proportions.
This project has been longlisted in the house renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
