Krft has collaborated with Nicholas Hare Architects to design the new performance arts centre at Brighton College in the Richard Cairns Building for pupils aged 11-18 in Brighton, England.
Brighton College's brand new 3,300 square metre performance arts centre features a hybrid mix of studio spaces, classrooms, social spaces and a fully equipped 400-seat theatre, on a very compact site within the monumental campus.
This complex spatial puzzle required the building to extend beyond the site footprint, resulting in a dynamic, sculptural form – a dance move – clad in brick and flint on all facades and roofs.
As a result, the curved facade combines the Gilbert Scott-designed, neo-Gothic context with contemporary form, in a play of local and historical materials.
This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
