Schmidt Hammer Lassen has designed Pilefacade, a prefabricated system that explores how local biomaterials can enter the large-scale building production, benefiting the climate and local ecology.

Pilefacade reimagines the architectural potential of fast-growing Nordic willow as a prefabricated facade system, offering a regenerative alternative to conventional materials.

Designed for disassembly and reuse, the system comprises three integrated elements: structural framing, pressed boards and rainscreen cladding.

Pilefacade demonstrates how biogenic resources can be harnessed at scale for the built environment.

This project is the result of a cross-disciplinary collaboration between Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, Staticus, MOOW and PileByg.

The facade's layered expression reflects its sustainable logic, blending natural materiality with contemporary performance.

This project has been longlisted in the material innovation category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
