Karamuk Kuo has designed the Cannady Hall, an extension of the Rice University School of Architecture in Houston, Texas.
Cannady Hall, the new extension to Rice School of Architecture, adds 22,000 square feet for fabrication, collaboration and exhibition.
Integrating into the historical context, the building form is derived from a playful extrusion of the existing Anderson Hall roof profile to connect the two buildings over an existing arcade.
The terracotta facade complements the brick character of the campus while presenting a future-forward image of the school.
An integrated approach fuses design with sustainable performance. Pragmatic and expressive, the exposed structure inside is the robust framework for the evolving activities, allowing the school to adapt to their needs.
This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
