Kooij has designed Staple, a single slab of bent recycled plastic made into a versatile monoblock.
The Staple stool quietly celebrates the qualities inherent to recycled plastic. Namely, the material's ability to bend without sacrificing structural integrity. Multi-functional as a stool or side table, the understated U-shape places expressive patterning at the fore.
Free from joins or reinforcements, the Staple embraces plastic's ability to stand alone as a mono-material. Composed entirely of studio discards, the Staple gives a third life to its recycled source material.
An in-house colourist reacts intuitively to fluctuating material stock, crafting solid, spontaneous patterns from colour tests, prototypes and off-cuts. As a result, each Staple is entirely unique.
This project has been longlisted in the collectible design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
