Masterd has designed Tacubo Shirokanedai, a pristine yet modern Italian restaurant inspired by wood-fired cuisine in Tokyo, Japan.
Inspired by Tacubo's simple, primitive wood-fired cuisine that maximises the natural flavour of the ingredients, Masterd aimed to create the prototype of a modern wood-fired restaurant that "exudes the same realism and liveliness as when people in the primitive age ate over fire in caves."
"In a modern society where many things are commonplace and gorgeous spaces are everywhere, a restaurant where you can taste the original flavour of ingredients made by producers with a primitive method and with their souls may be what lifts people's spirits and makes them feel fulfilled," said Masterd.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable interior category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
