Powerhouse Company has designed Valckensteyn, a timber residential building in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Valckensteyn is the first mass timber residential building in Rotterdam, combining innovative construction with a strong social mission.

Designed by Powerhouse Company for housing corporation Woonstad Rotterdam, all 82 of its rental units are affordable and sustainable.

Located in the post-war Pendrecht neighbourhood, the building is largely constructed from Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), showcasing eco-friendly design alongside a commitment to inclusivity.

Valckensteyn also reflects the area's original urban plan and architectural heritage, while promoting biodiversity and circular design principles.

This project has been longlisted in the housing category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
