Winner: House (rural) of the year 2025. Fernanda Canales has designed House 720 Degrees in Mexico.
Designed by Fernanda Canales in Valle de Bravo, House 720 Degrees is an off-grid circular home that breathes with the land, shifting with seasons, light and daily rhythms.
Designed for several families to live in at the same time, this off-the-grid house is truly many homes in one: one facing inwards into a circular central courtyard; another opening up towards varied views along the external perimeter of the circle; one on the ground floor and another as an open roof terrace.
"An extroverted house during the day, framing a mountain and a volcano, and another during the evening, completely introverted," said Fernanda Canales.
The project comprises three volumes: the main circular house, a detached studio and a rectangular volume with a patio and additional bedrooms, storage and services.
As a result, the division of the program into three volumes responds to the site's accentuated topography and the untouched existing vegetation.
Judge comments: "A spectacular one-off house. This visually impactful home was designed to take advantage of its remote Mexican location by creating views from every space which look out in every direction."
