DHK Architects has designed In/tension for IDS Vancouver in Vancouver, Canada.

In/tension is a testing ground for what can be created when clear intention guides each choice from material to construction to de-construction.

Built from standard dimensional lumber using an innovative system designed to leave no trace on the wood, the lumber re-entered the supply chain as raw material following the exhibition.

The structure is entirely held together with ratchet straps, using gravity and tension to create structural stability without any nails, glues or screws.

As a result, a variety of functional and social spaces are created from the standard modular elements, showcasing the warmth and flexibility of the quotidian material.
