Pikalabo has designed the interiors of Art House Hinode in Tokyo, Japan.

Art House Hinode is a one-room private hotel overlooking Tokyo Bay. Drawing on the Japanese concept of mitate, translating natural phenomena into spatial elements: clouds into layered wall and ceiling forms, rain into fine suspended lines and pooled glass and shifting daylight into an active material.

Instead of relying on decorative excess, the design sought to create a strong sense of place through abstraction, atmosphere and carefully controlled perception.

Custom-built furniture, restrained detailing and a tightly composed palette create two contrasting yet connected atmospheres, allowing a small-scale hospitality project to feel immersive, distinct and culturally specific.

More than a place to stay, Art House Hinode proposes a contemporary cultural encounter through atmosphere, abstraction and changing perception.
