In-Common Studio has designed Gentle Metal.
Gentle Metal is a woven steel chair from Bangkok that challenges the 'truth-to-materials' dogma.
By applying traditional Thai agricultural weaving to industrial steel, the studio uncovers a hidden truth: that metal can be soft, flexible, and light-diffusing.
Developed with Kunakij Manufacturing, this project replaces industrial coldness with a haptic, responsive textile that creates a rhythmic play of light and shadow.
This multidisciplinary work proves that a material's truth is not a fixed property but a spectrum, merging cultural heritage with advanced technology to expand the soul of the material itself.
