Deft Studios has designed Checkmate, a sculptural furniture piece.

Checkmate is a sculptural piece that exists in the blurred space between an object and a creature.

Crafted meticulously from solid walnut and ash, it explores imagination and movement in a playful yet refined manner.

"The piece is all about the layering of ideas, techniques and details, integrating movement into all aspects of the design," said Deft Studios.

Referencing former woodworking techniques that have been revived in a contemporary manner, Checkmate features exaggerated, sculptural form, playful curves and complex techniques.

"As our most unique creation to date, Checkmate is made to last – and bring joy – for generations to come," added Deft Studios.
