Figura has designed La Maison Pliée in Loctudy, France.

The fundamental goal of this project was to design a passive house – a home designed to be comfortable while using a minimum of energy and minimising its carbon footprint, both during construction and throughout its entire lifespan.

The house's orientation is designed to take advantage of solar gain in winter to fully heat the common areas and partially heat the private spaces.

The dual orientation of the common areas and the single orientation of the private spaces enable this thermal management.

On its plot, the house folds and unfolds to provide privacy from neighbouring buildings, creating spatial expansions conducive to use and taking full advantage of the orientation of the land.
