Studio Nada Debs has designed Okhun Gozar Craft Salon in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF) invited Studio Nada Debs to transform the abandoned 18th-century Okhun Gozar Mosque in Tashkent into a contemporary craft salon celebrating Uzbek artisanship.

Preserving the mosque's historic character and religious significance, this project retained its original architectural features while introducing new interventions and Traditional Uzbek crafts throughout the space.

The innovation lies in treating restoration not as a return to the past, but as a contemporary cultural strategy.

Rather than converting the mosque into a static heritage site, this project reactivates it as a living craft salon: part exhibition space, part retail space, part social gathering space and part cultural platform.

"It gives traditional Uzbek crafts a contemporary setting without erasing the historic architecture that holds them," said Nada Debs.
