The Burghley Room (Cambridge, UK)
by Scott Whitby Studio

Scott Whitby Studio has designed the interiors of The Burghley Room in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Set within the Grade I Listed Chapel Court of St John's College at the University of Cambridge, this project transforms a series of internal rooms into versatile meeting and workspaces.

At its heart is a commitment to reuse: forgotten historic oak benches and tables, unused on campus for decades, were meticulously dismantled and reworked into the room's table, wall panelling and a dividing screen.

Walls and ceilings are lined with sprayed cork for acoustic and thermal performance – while bespoke cork flooring made from recycled wine-cork offcuts sequesters 193kg of carbon dioxide per square metre.

In addition, a new platform lift delivers step-free access to the historic building for the first time.
