Raul Sanchez Architects has designed the interiors of La Casa del Pirata in Mataró, Spain.

Antoni Cuyàs left Mataró in 1820, became a feared corsair in Argentina and later a wealthy advisor to presidents. He returned in 1865, rebuilt two houses on the Rambla, and created a palatial home later inherited by his adopted heir.

Generations followed until Manuel Cuyàs and Nuria renovated the remaining historic rooms in 2023, adapting them for contemporary living while preserving their character.

A stainless-steel plinth organises the main space, integrating functions and concealing systems, while original materials and traces of time are preserved.

This project blends restoration and intervention, treating history as something living rather than frozen or idealised.
