Harp and Harp has designed 158 Purley Downs Road in London, United Kingdom.

158 Purley Downs Road is a development of seven new family homes in the place of one house in Sanderstead within the London Borough of Croydon.

The intensification of the site was facilitated by the since-revoked Croydon Suburban Housing design guide, which encouraged densification of the suburbs to tackle the borough's housing shortages.

"The suburbs are traditionally areas that are resistant to change and often ignored by architects and design professionals, but are actually highly connected and sustainable areas for new, intensified brownfield development utilising creative solutions," said Harp and Harp.

As a result, this project illustrates how density can be massively increased on a corner plot, while still providing family-sized houses with modern architectural approaches.
