THINK TANK Architecture has designed the new Zando Central Market in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Located in Gombe, this multi-purpose project combines a wholesale and everyday market, 650 shops, some logistic storage, a fire station, a police station, an infirmary, the administration and vet offices and a food court.

Built using local materials, terracotta bricks and concrete, this project follows bioclimatic and passive principles, such as thermal mass or natural ventilation through the brick facades like moucharabiehs.

"Zando [looks like] a new modern African construction, as well as an heir to the modernist Brutalist architecture of the continent," said THINK TANK.
