Stitch Room is Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec’s contribution to MyHome, an exhibition of experimental room sets at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany (via dezain.net).

Described by the designers as “a room for rest”, Stitch Room consists of two shelters akin to shanty-town structures but made of sheets of stiffened fabric that snap together.

“With modular textile walls, they form a mobile and temporary space for relaxation and retreat, a place of reflection and regeneration,” says the Vitra press release.

See more photos of the exhibition in our earlier post.

The Vitra Museum website has been updated with movies of all the installations at the MyHome show.

Just as Ben said, it’s disappointing.
R&E Bouroullec do have the potential to become as popular as Aemes within 30/40 years IMO
Seems they have most of the time a ‘Hit’ with an occassional ‘Mis’ (like this awfully stitch room)

It’s not bad.

i guess my problem with this is that they have chosen to create a vitra shanty home. this seems desperately “edgy”…
i hope this is not a new trend in “high design”.

I really don’t think that this is all that bad. It’s building off of their long-standing research with felt as a building material — and plus it just looks really, really comfortable. It’s a modern day rumpus room for young and old.
