Renovation of 80,000 ton silos
by Atelier Deshaus

The renovation of 80,000 ton silos on Minsheng Wharf, Shanghai, is an active attempt at spatial reuse.

Under the "adaptive reuse" principle, the renovation of industrial heritage should be based on continuing its historic and cultural value. The principle has been given new connotations in a new era and in an urban context, as the warehouse is no longer predominantly used for production. The building's essential openness is achieved through a suspended exterior escalator that both emphasises the publicness of the project and takes people directly to the top of the building, where there is a view of the Huangpu River.
