Watch Kim Cook talk about Burning Man at World Architecture Festival 2017
Burning Man festival director Kim Cook wrapped up World Architecture Festival 2017 with this talk on building temporary cities in the Nevada desert.
Cook, the director of art and civic engagement for Burning Man, explored how the festival sits in a wider context of urban community.
Each year, 70,000 people build a temporary city in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for the event, comprising artworks and structures of varying scales and materials. Festival founder Larry Harvey spoke to Dezeen about the need for urban design in this context during an interview in 2015.

Dezeen was media partner for World Architecture Festival 2017, which this year took place in Berlin in conjunction with the Inside festival of interior design.
We broadcasted a number of talks and seminars from both events – including talks by Diébédo Francis Kéré and Pierre de Meuron– and also conducted video interviews with the winners.
World Architecture Festival took place from 15-17 November 2017 at Arena Berlin. Take a look at our livestreamed talks and seminars from the event.
