Jungle Keva
by Jaque Studio

Shortlisted for hotel and short stay interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Jungle Keva by Jaque Studio is a small boutique hotel based in Tulum.

The main concept of Jungle Keva consisted in preserving 70 per cent of the existing vegetation in order to build around it. Inside, palm leaf-lined ceilings meet wooden fixtures and furnishings, which Jaque Studio designed in reference to its verdant surroundings.

The hotel has five 50-square-metre lodges, which have been dotted throughout a tree-filled plot of land to foster a village atmosphere in the Mayan jungle. The dwellings are formed by a mezzanine, a terrace and an indoor-outdoor bathroom.

Social areas located around the back are comprised of a dining space and yoga pavilion hanging in cantilever over the pool.

The studio has also designed a fifth lodge to accommodate the hotel’s communal areas with a kitchen and dining area opening onto a sun lounging deck. An adjacent yoga room fronted by slatted wooden screens cantilevers out over a pool, which has two mature Sapote rising up through its centre.
