Garden Hotpot Restaurant

MUDA Architects has designed a hotpot restaurant in Chengdu, China which hugs the edge of a lotus pond in a eucalyptus forest.

To reconstruct the hotpot restaurant, the architects decided to blend local hotpot culture into a natural ecological environment by presenting a waterside catering space that respects the original ecology.

The white roof and platform are designed in coordinating organic shapes with curves, stretched to skirt the water body and interface with the eucalyptus woods.

The whole roof is supported by thin pillars integrating into the woods instead of solid walls, which resembles the steam of hotpots diffusing into the air.

The proposal aims to minimise human intervention and enhance the interaction between people and nature.

This project has been longlisted in the hospitality building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
