Lostvilla Qinyong Primary School Hotel
by Atelier XÜK

Hao Chen

Atelier XÜK has renovated an obsolete rural primary school into a boutique hotel in China's Yinzhou District.

Facing the difficulty of transforming a solid masonry building, a strategy of intervention was adopted to form a bricolage of the old and the new.

From furniture to add-on structure, in-situ fabrication techniques have been used to achieve an atmosphere of quality, which coheres with the context.

Boundaries between divisions of design process were broken, and spatial elements have been re-integrated to become moderators of scale and experience, as well as responsive solutions for technical issues.

This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
