La Boca has designed a film poster for Korean film Parasite, incorporating plot points into the illustration.

The studio was tasked with creating an illustrated film poster, commissioned by the UK distributor, to create a buzz leading up to the release of the film.

The movie contains a number of signifiers in the plot that work on different levels, notably the use of staircases to represent social class. The studio wanted to create a design that would play with these elements, so the poster is intriguing before seeing the film, but also satisfying afterwards.

As the film had already released in several countries, the distributor wanted to create a design that would breath new life into the film online.

As an in-joke with the director, the firm has included a hidden Academy Award in the design.

This project has been longlisted in the graphic design category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
