Miguel Concha Arquitectura designed the Santiago Carbonell Foundation Museum in Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico.

This project materialised from over a decade of planning the rescue of a house dating back to 1760, in the hopes of bringing further cultural development to the city of Querétaro.

The Santiago Carbonell Foundation Museum seeks to bring art closer to the general population, where an interesting curation of works illustrating the career of the famous painter, Santiago Carbonell, is exhibited.

The strategy implemented for this project by architect, Miguel Concha, was to start by "recovering the original structure and making minor modifications that would allow the adaption of the building to its new use."

In doing so, Concha was able to transform rooms into art galleries, as well as build a new roof to create a lighting source that does not affect the integrity of the original 1760s structure – among many other space adaptations throughout this timeless museum.

This project has been longlisted in the cultural building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
