Divine House by Landry Smith Architect
Jeremy Bittermann

Landry Smith Architect has created a house with a quiet yet impactful design in the west of the USA.

The project is located on a site overlooking a dramatic bend on the McKenzie River outside of Eugene, Oregon.

The structure has a simple rectangular footprint and a gable roof with deep overhangs. It is directly organised down the plan’s centerline below the ridge. The northern half contains more cellular programs, while the southern half is entirely open for the main living areas.

Wooden interior spaces are defined by a series of solid-reading volumes and establish the distinct spatial character of the two halves. The house sits quietly in the rural landscape, subtle but powerful addition to the ensemble of surrounding buildings.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
