May's Point House by Tanner Architects

Tanner Architects has created a coastal retreat for family and guests in Australia on the site of an old farm that brings focus to its expansive seascape location.

The project is a durable, tectonic structure with industrial components utilised to create an architecture of tactility and resilience.

The low, linear home captures the sightline southeast to Wedge Island in the distance, with a glazed pavilion bookended with in-situ walls and braced by three intermediate walls and corridor nibs. The steel roof frame superstructure rests on these walls, allowing a broad eave extension over the courtyard and deck.

The building takes industrial materials more typically used commercialy, and utilises them in a domestic context through detail and refinement to create a simple, unadorned vessel through which to experience the landscape.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
