Ferskûle
by Denkkamer

Stijn Poelstra

Denkkamer has created a retreat for an active family as a place to relax and unwind off the coast of the Netherlands.

The project is located on Schiermonnikoog, one of the five Dutch Wadden Islands. It stands on the site of a pre-existing holiday home with the Frisian name 'Ferskûle', meaning 'hidden'.

The name informed the design of the residence which encompasses a multitude of places to in which to nestle, sit or lie down comfortably.

Areas such as the living kitchen with central cooking table at its heart and the panoramic view study sit alongside the sunken sitting room with wood fireplace and lowered perspective on the surroundings, while bedrooms with a view of the starry sky, a recessed alcove in the outer facade and an intimate outdoor seating pit sunken in the basement of the house add to the home's many hidden special and surprising places.

This project has been longlisted in the small interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
