Studioshaw has designed the Catching Sun House, a new build courtyard house in London, United Kingdom.
This four-year project delivered a small and complex piece of architecture meeting a strict brief of a low-maintenance, low-energy house.
Nestled between existing garden walls in Walthamstow is a long and narrow piece of land bought by the founder of Studioshaw at auction.
"The plot is surrounded by existing houses and gardens, so where the sunlight and views would be was the focus," said Studioshaw.
The London Plan stipulated that 50 square metres of external space must be included; therefore, Studioshaw created three courtyards, accessed by glazed sliding doors that become an extension of the internal spaces.
This project has been longlisted in the house urban category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
