TAG has designed the Red Village Observatory in Panzhihua, China.
The Red Village Observatory, situated in a historic settlement within the impoverished mountainous community regions of western China, serves as a pioneering initiative aimed at transforming local environmental advantages into an astronomical economic sector.
As a result, this project promotes economic development while ensuring equitable educational opportunities for local 'left-behind' children.
Meanwhile, multifunctional features have been incorporated into scientific and educational infrastructure, fostering a sustainable, self-sufficient operational model that will alleviate government financial burdens.
Furthermore, the project prioritised the use of cost-effective materials, the preservation of the village's unique characteristics and the enhancement of public facilities, all while supporting the protection and development of rural communities.
This project has been longlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
