White Arkitekter has designed the Kärven Observation Tower, a three-dimensional woven structure built in wood, a landmark in the city of Varberg, Sweden.
A breathtaking new landmark graces the Getterön nature reserve – the observation tower of Kärven.
Designed by White Arkitekter for the Varberg municipality, this distinctive silhouette instantly establishes Kärven as a recognisable icon for Getterön.
Standing at an impressive twelve meters tall and seven meters wide, the tower is a captivating interplay of form and function and has already gained international attention.
Constructed with 140 wooden planks, it resembles an eye-catching bundle of straws playfully bound together and as a result, the conspicuous shape gives the tower its name: Kärven, translating as 'The Sheaf'.
This project has been longlisted in the small project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
