Samuel Wilkinson Studio has designed Yōso for Allermuir, a sculptural, solid oak armchair.

A distinctive grouping of parts, Yõso is an honest take on a classic timber armchair. Made purely from solid oak, this chair is a fusion of craft and technology to create an elegant armchair rooted in traditional design characteristics but with a modern expression.

The signature detail is the relationship between the backrest, which is steambent and then machined and the connected leg-arm component.

The brief from Allermuir was to design a non-stacking signature timber armchair, the first all-timber chair for the brand. Initially, the sketches were from a side view, a process of deconstructing the armchair into elements and then iteratively reconstructing it with different approaches.

This approach proved fruitful as Samuel Wilkinson Studio found a good graphic balance between the parts and the strong lines that run through the entire design.

This project has been longlisted in the seating design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
